Rules and Regulations
  1. Player is or was employed by Raytheon Company is eligible to participate in the Raytheon Basketball League.
  2. Games will begin promptly at half past the hour with a five-minute warm-up. There will be a five-minute halftime and teams will switch ends at the half.
  3. Players are highly encouraged to bring basketballs to the gym. The game ball will be selected by mutual consent of the captains. If you do not have a ball, but want to buy one, RBL recommends that you purchase one here.
  4. Each half is twenty-five (25) minutes long, running time.
  5. Due to time constraints, the running clock cannot be stopped under any circumstances. Both teams are encouraged to maintain continuous play throughout the game.
  6. The home team wears white shirt. The away team wears black shirt. Please no gray shirt.
  7. The home team takes first possession of the ball. Possession then alternates between "jump" balls and half-time (similar to NCAA rules).
  8. There is a three-point line at the Curtis Middle School and it will be in effect. A standard basket will be two (2) points, beyond the three-point line will be three (3) points.
  9. In case of a tie at the end of regulation, the team captains will flip a coin to determine which team gets possession of the ball in overtime. Overtime is limited to five (5) minutes running time. Only one overtime will be played.
  10. If the score remains tied at the end of overtime, the game will be decided by sudden-death. The team that lost the overtime coin-flip gets possession first. The first team to score wins.
  11. A team may make substitutions only on a dead ball. This is to prevent confusion for the defensive team and allows them sufficient time to match-up with the new lineup. A made basket is NOT a dead ball.
  12. A dead ball is always put into play from the top of the key. The player putting the ball in play must do so with a pass; he may not dribble or shoot first.
  13. There is no shot clock. However, "killing" the clock to preserve a lead at the end of the game is considered unsportsmanlike conduct. At the end of the game, the team with the lead should attempt a shot within 30 seconds as if there was a shot clock.
  14. There is no backcourt ("over-and-back") violation due to the length of the court.
  15. Fighting will not be tolerated. Any individual involved in fighting will be suspended.
  16. The home team captain of the "First" game is responsible for getting the game clock, ball and scoreboard from the custodian (Ron). The home team captain of the "Last" game is responsible for returning the clock, ball and scoreboard to the custodian (Ron).
  17. The winning team captain is responsible for reporting the game score. All scores must be reported by the end of Friday for games played that week. Failure to report the game score by Friday will result in a forfeit by the team responsible for reporting the score.
  18. Fouls and violations are to be called by the player fouled or the individual committing the foul. Each team will be allowed 10 fouls per half without penalty. After a team exceeds the 10 foul limit, there will be two penalty situations:(1) If a player is fouled in the act of shooting and the shot goes in, the basket will count and that team will retain possession of the ball. (2) If a player is fouled (any foul) and no basket is scored, one free throw will be awarded plus that team will retain possession of the ball. (3) In the event of overtime, the fouls accumulated during second half will be carried into the overtime.
  19. There is no foul limit. However, excessive fouling ("hacking away") will not be tolerated and severely undermines the spirit of the RBL.
  20. To be eligible for playoffs, a player must be on team roster in possession of League record keeper and participate in half of the teams scheduled games. The number of games required will be rounded down to the nearest whole number, i.e. an eleven game regular season will require participation in 5 games to be eligible for the playoffs. Participation will be recorded by exchange of rosters with the participating players for each game by the opposing captains. These notated rosters shall be sent to the League record keeper. Forfeits will be counted as no participation by the forfeiting team and actual attendance by the winning team. If the forfeit is agreed upon in advance, then the winning captain will submit his expected attendance for that game to the League record keeper.
